Marina Abromovic

Founded in 1977, McWood Studios is a design and fabrication shop located in a state-of-the-art facility in Toronto, Ontario. Our studio creates scenery and sets for Film, Television, and Theatre; booths and displays for tradeshows; and custom millwork for museum and art exhibits. We collaborate with designers and architects to deliver unique projects to clients across Canada and the U.S.

Marina Abromović is a world-renowned performance artist. We built all the maple furniture and copper tripods for her activation at Luminato Festival. One of the interesting challenges in building these solid maple pieces was that they were not designed using traditional furniture joinery. The designer had an aesthetic that required any horizontal slab to run through any vertical legs or shelves. In addition, no method of joinery could be visible. We also built copper tripods with custom shaped maple saddles for holding the crystals.
